چکیده

The orientation of physical networks is a prime task in deciphering the signaling-regulatory circuitry of the cell. One manifestation of this computational task is as a maximum graph orientation problem, where given an undirected graph with n vertices and a collection of vertex pairs, the goal is to orient the edges of the graph so that a maximum number of pairs are connected by a directed path. We develop an approximation algorithm for this problem with a performance guarantee of O(log n/ log log n). This result improves on a previous logarithmic approximation, due to Medvedovsky et al. (WABI ’08). In addition, motivated by interactions whose direction is pre-set such as protein-DNA interactions, we extend our algorithm to handle mixed graphs, a major open problem posed by earlier work. In this setting, we demonstrate that a polylogarithmic approximation ratio is achievable under biologically-motivated assumptions on the sought paths. ∗An extended abstract of this paper appeared in Proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Algorithms in Bioinformatics, pages 215–225, 2010. †Blavatnik School of Computer Science, Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv 69978, Israel. Understanding Hydrogen Adsorption in MIL-47-M (M = V and Fe) through Density Functional Theory

The present paper aims to investigate the role of open metal site metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) on hydrogen adsorptivity using periodic boundary condition (PBC) density functional theory (DFT). Hence, MIL-47-M (M = V and Fe) were selected and one hydrogen molecule adsorptivity was calculated in different orientations on them. Four different chemical sites were identified in every cluster sect...

Factor Analysis of Teenage Athletes’ Goal Orientations and Sports Participation Motives in Leisure Time

The aim of the present study was to identify the most important goal orientations and sport participation motives among teenage athletes in leisure time. In addition, these variables were prioritized and associations between all constructs have been studied. For this purpose, 376 Iranian teenage athletes were singled out by cluster–random sampling, and responded to Task and Ego Orientation Sp...

Psychometric Properties of the Exercise Causality Orientations Scale

The Exercise Causality Orientations Scale-2 (ECOS-2) has been designed to evaluate causality orientations in exercise based on the Self Determination Theory. The purpose of this research was to determine the reliability and validity of ECOS-2 in women of Mashhad. 402 women entered the study using the convenience sampling method and completed ECOS-2. The Confirmatory factor analysis result demon...

Optimal Distributed Generation (DG) Allocation in Distribution Networks using an Improved Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) Algorithm

Abstract: The development of distributed generation (DGs) units in recent years have created challenges in the operation of power grids, especially distribution networks. One of these issues is the optimal allocation (location and capacity) of these units in distribution networks. In this thesis, a method based on the improved ant colony optimization algorithm is presented to solve the problem ...

Multi-beam single-molecule defocused fluorescence imaging reveals local anisotropic nature of polymer thin films.

We developed a method to determine full three-dimensional orientation distribution of individual molecules based on wide-field defocused fluorescence imaging. Excitation efficiencies of out-of-plane oriented molecules were improved dramatically by illuminating molecules with multiple laser beams. Our high throughput approach allowed us to obtain unbiased statistical distributions of orientation...
